Baking With Friends
A story of seasonality, craft and quiet understanding
Project challenge
To capture the essence of The Irish Kitchen through one recipe a rhubarb, pistachio & hazelnut frangipane tart in a way that felt true to its roots.
The aim was not just to document a dish, but to translate Cherie Denham’s world: her instinctive cooking style, her connection to ingredients, and the quiet rhythm of her kitchen.
Creative Approach
This was a day led by intuition. No rigid structure, no over-styling just a shared understanding of light, movement, and story.
We began at the source: raw ingredients laid simply on the table flour, butter, nuts, the first blush of rhubarb allowing their textures and tones to speak. From there, the narrative unfolded naturally.
• Hands pressing pastry, flour dust catching soft window light
• Jars and larders hinting at a life lived through food and preservation
• Rhubarb in its raw, tangled beauty both ingredient and muse
• The quiet focus of making, uninterrupted and unforced
• The transformation: from simple components to a finished tart, rich with colour and intention
Both stills and video were approached as one continuous story each frame feeling like a moment observed rather than constructed. The camera followed the process, never interrupting it.
Light was everything. Natural, directional, and gentle shaping form, deepening shadows, and allowing the warmth of the kitchen to come through without distraction.
Creative Direction
A palette drawn from the land and the kitchen: soft greens, muted reds, warm wood, aged ceramics.
Composition remained loose and organic crumbs left, edges imperfect, moments slightly offcentre to preserve honesty.
The focus was on tactility: the grain of the table, the softness of dough, the fibrous snap of rhubarb, the gloss of the baked tart..
Big Ideas, Real Impact.
The Outcome
A collection of stills and video that feel intimate, grounded and deeply authentic.
Imagery that not only showcases a recipe, but captures a way of cooking and a way of being.
