Great Britain Leeks
A story-led recipe and visual campaign
Project challenge: The brief was beautifully simple and creatively demanding.
Every ingredient had to be British.
Every dish had to make the leek the hero.
And the campaign had to feel emotionally rooted, not just technically correct.
Creative Approach
When I was commissioned to create the recipe, video and imagery suite for Great British Leeks, I didn’t begin with a shot list. I began with a story.
For me, that meant anchoring everything in two places that shape both my cooking and my visual language: my Scottish heritage and my Dorset cottage home.
Visual Storytelling
Heritage & Place:
Scotland brings warmth, thrift and depth.
Broths, pies, barley, cream and slow cooking that gathers people around a table.
Dorset brings light, produce and coastal freshness.
A cottage-garden feeling of something just picked, just baked, just shared.
Each recipe was developed to live between those two worlds.
Food & Recipes:
British leeks were braised, baked, folded into pastry and stirred into soups and pies, always paired with ingredients sourced from UK farms, dairies, mills and fisheries.
Mood & Aesthetic:
The leek was treated not as a background vegetable, but as a character. I highlighted it by using these techniques:
Steam rising from butter-soft layers.
Cut edges catching the light.
Greens curling like ribbons on the plate.
Shot in natural side light in my cottage kitchen, with copper, linen and wood, the imagery feels lived-in and real, not styled in a studio.
Video direction
The videos were slow and tactile:
Knife on board.
Cream pouring.
Pastry cracking.
Soup ladled.
Moments designed to make people pause, breathe and reconnect with food.
All the images and videos inspired viewers to imagine themselves recreating these recipes, using Great Britain Leeks.
The most powerful food campaigns don’t say “buy this.”
They say “this belongs in your life.”
My goal is always the same: to take a brand’s ingredient and give it a place in someone’s home, memory and table.
I believe I reached this goal with this campaign.
