Mother’s day Earl Grey cake
for Kenwood UK
Project challenge
This project aimed to capture more than just a recipe - it sought to evoke the warmth, nostalgia, and quiet appreciation of Mother’s Day. The goal was to immerse the audience in the sensory experience of crafting a unique cake made from toast, infused with Earl Grey tea, and layered with marmalade. The imagery needed to celebrate simple yet meaningful moments at home while subtly integrating the Kenwood mixer as part of the scene.
Creative Approach
The visual storytelling was designed around a cozy, heartwarming setting, emphasizing the small rituals of love and care that define Mother’s Day. The focus extended beyond the final cake to the intimate process of preparation: brewing tea, spreading marmalade, and arranging toast.
Each step reinforcing the narrative of home, warmth, and quiet appreciation. The styling and atmosphere embraced a soft, vintage charm, where natural elements and warm tones worked together to evoke a sense of slow, intentional living.
Photography themes
Lighting & Mood:
Soft, directional natural light streaming through a window, casting a warm glow over the setting.
Gentle shadows to enhance depth and texture, highlighting the crisp edges of the toast and the glossy sheen of the marmalade.
A balance of golden hues from the cake, rich browns from the tea, and soft neutral tones to maintain a natural, cozy aesthetic.
2. Styling & Props:
Rustic wooden table, complemented by a linen tablecloth for a relaxed yet elegant feel.
A steaming cup of Earl Grey tea, subtly reinforcing the cake’s infusion of flavors.
Vintage ceramics and dishware, adding a tactile, heirloom quality.
A Kenwood mixer, naturally positioned within the composition as a supporting element rather than the focal point.
Small details like fresh flowers, scattered orange slices, and handwritten recipe notes to deepen the storytelling.
3. Hero Shots & Composition:
Hero Shot – A close-up of the toast cake in its bundt form, elegantly glazed with marmalade and garnished with candied orange slices.
Overhead Table Scene – A flat lay of the complete setting, showcasing the cake, tea, and surrounding elements.
Product Integration – A subtle shot featuring the Kenwood mixer in the background, reinforcing the brand's presence without overshadowing the main subject.
Soft Focus Background – A wider frame where the cake remains in sharp focus while the background (a cozy chair, a softly lit window) adds warmth and atmosphere.
Macro Detail – A close-up of a sliced piece, emphasizing the texture of the crumb, the crisp edges of the toast, and the glossy marmalade glaze.

This project successfully translated the essence of Mother’s Day into a visually rich, emotionally resonant story.
