tarquins gin in girls hand with glass and dress

Wild Coast Summer

Project Overview

This project captures the feeling of an endless British summer on the coastline bare feet on warm shingle, salt on sun-kissed skin, waves rolling onto the shore and an ice-cold gin waiting to be poured. Rather than simply photographing a bottle, the aim was to tell the story of a lifestyle; one rooted in spontaneity, sunshine and the freedom that comes with long coastal afternoons.

Inspired by Tarquin’s Cornish heritage and the vibrant flavours of Mexico, the imagery blends the rugged beauty of the British coast with the bright freshness of Mexican lime. The result is a collection that feels aspirational yet completely authentic—luxury without pretence.

Creative Direction

The story follows a quiet summer escape to the sea.

A flowing linen dress moves in the breeze as the shoreline becomes both setting and prop. Fresh limes, sparkling tonic and the textured pebbles of the beach echo the botanical freshness of the gin, while the ocean reinforces the coastal identity at the heart of the brand.

Rather than creating heavily styled scenes, the images embrace movement and imperfection. Wind lifts fabric, waves crash unpredictably, water splashes across the bottle and sunlight dances naturally across the glass. Every frame feels lived rather than staged.

The colour palette draws directly from the bottle itself:

  • Seafoam turquoise

  • Fresh lime green

  • Warm coastal sand

  • Deep ocean blues

  • Golden afternoon sunlight

These colours create immediate harmony between product and environment.

Visual Story

The collection unfolds naturally throughout the day.

Beginning with lifestyle imagery that introduces the feeling of walking towards the sea with the bottle in hand, the story moves into relaxed moments of serving gin over ice before transitioning into clean product photography on the beach itself.

The narrative finishes with energetic hero images as the bottle meets the incoming tide, celebrating Tarquin’s coastal origins in the most literal and visually striking way possible. Water becomes both texture and storytelling element, creating movement that cannot be replicated in a studio.

The final sequence balances:

  • Lifestyle

  • Product

  • Detail

  • Motion

  • Brand identity

while ensuring every image feels connected.

Photography Style

Natural sunlight was used throughout to celebrate the brightness of summer.

The editing retains my signature painterly aesthetic with soft warmth, rich coastal tones and gentle contrast. Highlights remain luminous while shadows retain depth without becoming harsh.

Textures are allowed to breathe:

  • sparkling water

  • sea-worn pebbles

  • condensation

  • linen

  • citrus

  • glass

creating imagery that feels tactile enough to step into.

Selective shallow depth of field keeps attention on the bottle while allowing the coastline to become an atmospheric backdrop rather than a distraction.

Styling Notes

Styling was intentionally restrained.

Only a handful of carefully chosen elements were introduced:

  • Fresh limes

  • Clear glass with ice

  • Linen dress

  • Coastal pebbles

  • Sea water

Everything else comes from the landscape itself.

This minimalist approach allows the distinctive Tarquin’s bottle to remain the visual hero while reinforcing an effortless, premium lifestyle.

Brand Messaging

The imagery communicates more than flavour.

It speaks of:

  • Summer freedom

  • Coastal adventure

  • Slow afternoons

  • Shared moments

  • Refreshment

  • Craftsmanship

  • Place

The bottle doesn’t simply appear within the landscape—it belongs there.

Creative Outcome & Post-Processing

The final collection delivers a cohesive visual story that balances aspirational lifestyle imagery with strong commercial product photography. Rather than documenting a bottle of gin, the project immerses the viewer in a sensory coastal experience, warm shingle beneath bare feet, sea spray catching the light, fresh citrus in hand and the anticipation of the first refreshing sip. Every image was created to feel authentic and emotionally engaging, reinforcing Tarquin’s Cornish identity while celebrating the vibrant Mexican-inspired flavour profile.

In post-production, the focus was on enhancing the natural beauty of the scene rather than transforming it. Exposure and white balance were carefully refined to preserve the warmth of the afternoon sunlight while maintaining the cool seafoam tones found within the bottle’s signature wax seal. Colour grading followed my signature painterly style, introducing warm golden highlights, subtly cooled shadows and gently desaturated blues to create a timeless, cinematic aesthetic.

Local adjustments were used to lift detail within the bottle, increase clarity on the embossed glass and ensure the label remained crisp and legible throughout the collection. HSL refinements strengthened the turquoise and lime-green branding without oversaturating the surrounding landscape, allowing the product colours to naturally lead the viewer’s eye. Selective dodging and burning added depth to the pebbles, fabric and waves, while preserving a soft, organic feel.

Highlights on the glass, water droplets and ice were carefully controlled to retain sparkle without clipping, and gentle sharpening was applied selectively to the product while allowing backgrounds to remain soft and atmospheric. Lens corrections and perspective adjustments ensured the bottle maintained clean proportions, and minor retouching removed distracting elements while preserving the authenticity of the beach environment.

The final edit retains a handcrafted, nostalgic quality—rich in texture, warmth and movement—creating imagery that feels luxurious yet effortless. The result is a campaign that captures not only the character of Tarquin’s Mexican Lime Gin, but also the feeling of an unforgettable British summer by the sea.
