Spiced Cranberry Campari Cosmo

Intriguing and sensual, this uses Campari as a play on the dark bitter pleasure of cranberry in a classic cosmopolitan. As all lies dormant in the winter, this feverish undertone awakens the senses, the kind of drink that shouldn’t make sense, a contradiction, bitter, spiced, and sharp. Yet therein lies its beauty, once you try it there is no turning back.

Ingredients

For One Drink

• 40ml Citron Vodka
• 20ml Campari
• 10ml Cointreau
• 15ml Spiced Cranberry Syrup (See Below)
• 15ml Lime Juice
• Maraschino cherry to garnish

Spiced Cranberry Syrup

• 100g Caster Sugar
• 100ml Unsweetened Cranberry Juice
• 1 Cinnamon Stick
• 6 Cloves
• 1 Star Anise
• 2 cm Fresh cut Ginger

Instructions

1. Begin with the syrup. Add the juice and sugar to a small pan and dissolve over a low heat. Once dissolved, add all the spices, and bring to the boil. Boil for 3 minutes then remove from the heat.
2. Allow to steep until cool, then strain into a sterile bottle and store in the fridge.
3. When ready, add all ingredients to a Boston shaker with 5 ice cubes, shake for 30 seconds then strain through a hawthorn strainer into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and serve.
